This beautiful woolly mammoth upper jaw segment comes from Mokhovo, Siberia (Kemerovo region, Leninsk-Kuznetsk District)

This amazing find dates to the Pleistocene Epoch: 20,000 to 22,000 years old.

This exceptional fossil has both the juvenile P3 molar and the replacement M1 molar. Its is in incredible condition with no restoration work done.

5 lbs; 8" long; 3.75" wide; 6.25" high.

Interestingly, the Wooly Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) had 6 sets of teeth throughout its lifetime, which were progressively larger. They are designated as P2, P3, and P4 for juveniles and M1, M2, and M3 for adults.

Woolly mammoths are iconic Ice Age animals. Great herds of mammoths roamed the steppes of the Northern Hemisphere, with populations extending from the British Isles, through Siberia, and into North America. They were impressively large, reaching 11 feet tall at the shoulders and weighing up to 6 tonnes. Their tusks were larger and more curved than modern elephants, reaching up 13.5 feet in length!

Woolly mammoths had many adaptations to a cold environment, most notably a dense fur coat. Furthermore, their ears and tails were short to prevent frostbite and heat loss. They also had very specialized teeth. High-crowned molars were well suited to grinding tough, fibrous steppe grass.
